Cooking with Mariuca - Meat & Potato Patties *

Late one night I had a sudden craving for Begedil (Meat & Potato Patties). I love these delicious potato patties and when I cook them, I try to make enough to last us for two days. They're delicious to eat, a joy to munch on and simply irresistible as a hearty snack. Usually enjoyed with Soto, Begedil that is cooked right comes out from the frying pan as crispy balls of a golden shade.

I went into the kitchen to make sure I had the right ingredients for a yummy batch of Beef Begedil. Everything seemed to be in order so moving at the speed of a rumbling hungry tummy, I proceeded to make these delicious deep-fried patties. Smiley

Initially a little worried my patties would not turn out right since I've not made them in ages, my fears proved to be unfounded. And in the end, B woke up to a very tasty breakfast of Beef Begedil! Smiley

Ingredients

6 medium size potatoes, peeled and cut into 1/2 inch pieces
1 small cup of minced meat (chicken or beef)
10-15 bird's eye chilli, finely chopped
2 sprigs of spring onion, finely chopped
2 eggs
1/4 cup of fried shallots
1 tsp of salt
white pepper to taste
oil for frying

How to:

1. Fry the potatoes in oil until they turn a nice golden yellow in colour. Remove from pan.

2. Use a wooden spoon to mash the fried potatoes in a big bowl.

3. Add in the minced meat, chilli, fried shallots, spring onion, salt, pepper and 1 egg. Mix everything thoroughly.

Mix evenly

4. If mixture is too soft, add a little flour.

5. Use your fingers to shape the mixture into flat round balls of patties.

Dip before frying

6. Beat one egg in a small bowl. Dip the patties into beaten egg before frying them in hot oil. Turn the patties while frying to make sure both sides are evenly fried and cooked.

7. Remove from frying pan when patties turn a crispy golden brown.

Now that you're done, just sit back, relax and enjoy a delicious plate of deep-fried meat & potato patties with a loved one! Smiley
